News: Hospital to purchase new lift system
Earlier this year, the Cook Hospital requested money from the Heiam Foundation for a “bi-level positive airway pressure” breathing apparatus for treatment and care of individuals with respiratory and pulmonary conditions. After more evaluation and training, it was determined by the doctors and staff that this equipment was too specialized to have an application at the Cook Hospital. After further consideration, the Cook Hospital sought permission from the Foundation to use the money to purchase a bariatric lift system to be installed in one of the hospital rooms. These are permanent lift systems mounted in ceilings over hospital beds. New regulations require that these systems be able to lift a maximum of 500 pounds, up from the previous requirement of 350 pounds. The hospital hopes to get a matching grant to enable them to purchase two of these lift systems. The Heiam board members agreed with the need for the lift and approved the hospital’s request.
