Race to the Goal! Benefit proceeds over $56,000!

Thank you for supporting the W.C. Heiam Medical Foundation! Our 20th anniversary fund-raising event, “Race to the Goal!” was held Saturday, August 17 on the Cook Hospital grounds with 133 people in attendance. And just like last year, “Mother Nature” gave us a beautiful and warm evening for the festivities. Our thanks to the Cook Hospital staff for their help in hosting the event.

We hope those attending enjoyed the delicious food, beverages and piano music by Randy Wall. And as usual, there were many donated items in our live and silent auctions on which to bid. Once again our live auction contained a “surprise” wooden chest with a lake scene featuring loons. The chest was valued at $300+ and contained a gift certificate for a one-night stay and a $50 dinner at a Lake Vermilion resort and some lunch coupons at an area restaurant. The wooden chest was valued at $200.

We have so much support for the live and silent auctions from our local and out-of-town businesses and residents. There was a lot of enthusiastic and generous bidding during our Live Auction that night, particularly for the gourmet dinner for eight. The Live Auction is always a fun way to end the evening! We also had some interesting items in our Silent Auction, such as a vintage “Miller Time” pool table light. It, along with the reproduction of a LakeVermilion advertising sign, a picnic cooler and a residential sign gift certificate, generated very lively bidding. Many businesses have supported our auctions every single year since the beginning. We cannot thank them enough!

We are very happy to announce this year’s benefit has raised $56,798.08 to date! We are especially grateful to all of you for your support of this event. The foundation’s success has been made possible by the generous support of people like you who understand the importance of quality medical services in our community. We are especially happy to see hospital and clinic employees and board members who attend our event to show their support.

Once again, our sincere thanks for your continued commitment to our foundation. We will continue to work towards reaching our long-term goal of a $2 million endowment to insure that quality health care remains available in this area for future generations! Currently we have over $1.75 million conservatively invested in our endowment fund.

Although this year’s event was a great success, the more people we have attending the benefit, the more competitive the bidding will be on the silent and live auction items. We encourage you to join us next year on Saturday, August 16th, 2014 when we hope to reach our goal. (Save the date now!)

One last note, if you are not currently on our mailing list and would like to receive a benefit invitation or if you know of someone who would like to donate an item for our benefit auction, please let us know. We continue to look for new and unique items to add to the auction each year.
